SGTI - CoQsol

Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is found in virtually all cells of human body, including the heart, liver, and skeletal muscles. It functions as a carrier to transfer electrons across the membrane of mitochondria (the energy generator in the body's cells) to drive the production of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), the fuel that energizes cells in our body. Heart muscle cells have the greatest concentration of mitochondria, 5,000 per cell.

CoQ10 also possesses antioxidant and membrane-stabilizing properties. The CoQ10 from supplements, ubiquinone, must first be reduced to ubiquinol to act as an antioxidant. As an antioxidant, CoQ10 can protect proteins, LDL-cholesterol (bad cholesterol), and mitochondrial DNA from oxidative damage. For the steady state study, Group I was given 60 mg/day CoQsol®. Group II received the same amount of CoQ10 as a dry powder in a two-piece hard shell capsule. On the last day of the steady state study, the peak absorption segment and its accompanying analyses commenced. Subjects received 30 mg of their respective forms of CoQ10. The control group (Group III) received the placebo for both legs of the study.

After 30 days supplementation, the average basal blood CoQ10 levels for Group I increased by 165% (0.85 µg/ml to 2.26 µg/ml) as compared to an 80% increase (0.85 µg/ml to 1.5 µg/ml) experienced by Group II.

Five hours after the administration of 30 mg CoQsol®, peak absolute CoQ10 levels of Group I increased by 0.48 µg/ml blood compared to an increase of 0.19 µg/ml for Group II, which had received 30 mg dry CoQ10 powder in a two-piece hard shell capsule.
